Precious Little Remains documents sad tale of the Tiger

A new book on the Thylacine, Tasmanian tiger — Precious Little Remains, investigates the factors that led to the tiger’s tragic demise from a scientific and social view point.

The book was co-authored by Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery natural sciences curator David Maynard and museum collections officer Tammy Gordon.

Mr Maynard said the book was an attempt to dispel many of the myths which fuel the belief that tigers continued to live in the Tasmanian wilderness.

The book investigates four different bounties placed on the tigers head and the international trade in thylacines, which had hastened their demise toward the end.

It contains never-before published images, first-hand recollections of Tasmanians who are now in their 90s and catalogues QVMAG’s thylacine collection which holds about 10 per cent of the world’s thylacine remains.

Funding was provided by the Federal Government’s Your Community Heritage program.
